Redefining Solo Women's Travel in India ft. Anne Marie

India is a land celebrated for its great cultural heritage, colors, diversity, and traditions. Often shrouded in misconceptions about safety, India is a land brimming with cultural richness, vibrant colors, and diverse traditions.

In the last 5 years, we have had many women visiting India for work or pleasure, who incorporate a WOW experience into their travels.

Anne Marie, from Ireland was recently in India for a few months. And she spent around 15 days of that traveling with WOW to Ladakh and Kashmir!

Anne is an avid traveler and loves adventure. Here is what she had to say on her trips with WOW:

Q: What prompted your decision to travel solo to India?

A: I was captivated by the diversity and richness of Indian culture. I believe in the fantastic power of travel in connecting people and breaking down stereotypes.

Q: How would you say your earlier travel experiences helped prepare you for your solo trip in India?

A: My past travel experiences taught me invaluable lessons about the importance of being adaptable and open-minded. This reinforced my belief in the kindness and hospitality among people of various cultural backgrounds.

Q: Why did you decide to travel with WOW Club in India?

A: I chose WOW Club for their good itineraries, fair prices, and positive motivation from travelers. One factor that gave me a sense of security was the presence of a WOW Buddy through out the trip, and the friendly atmosphere among the co-travelers.

Q: What were your most memorable cultural experiences in your travels?

A: There were so many that marked my unforgettable memory-how Indian people welcomed me. I was invited to their homes, participated in family dinners, and made wonderful friends. In the domain of my judgment-as different as we may be culturally-I found them warm, endearing, and sweet.

Q: Were there any challenges or surprises that you encountered during your trip?

A: I did not experience any challenges that could be termed significant. One surprise was the openness and friendliness of men and women alike I met along the way. The myths about traveling being unsafe in India were so far from my reality.

Q: What security measures did you take to prevent mishaps during your solo trip?

A: I used only basic travel insurance to cover my trip. Besides that, I really cannot stress enough the importance of being careful, aware of your surroundings, and trusting your instincts. If you need help, do not hesitate to ask locals.

Q: Would you have any other advice for women preparing for solo travel in India?

A: Don't be intimidated by the myths about traveling in India. Try to hook up with groups such as WOW Club for safety and company, being non-judgmental, and respectful toward the customs of the places. India is pretty much safe and benign, and it will be a trip to remember!
